As finals roll around the corner, here are a few spots about KR where you can get the mad mugging going and the brain gains flowing.

October 21, 2019

The Tuesday which fell on 15th October was different from your typical Tuesdays of the semester. On this day, the KR Rockers were seen hastily loading guitars, keyboards and other equipment into bassist Shasqil’s car before rushing off to Timbre @ The Substation for their much awaited soundcheck. KR Rockers performs bi-annually at Timbre and this year, they covered 16 songs across two bands.

It has been two weeks since we have seen the gorgeous ladies and strapping gentlemen strut on stage, donned in their suits and gowns. Since then, we have not heard much from the pageantees. We now have a first-hand interview with the some of them.

If you weren’t in the half of Kent Ridge performing or the other half in the audience at Culture Night on October 24, you certainly missed out. Culture Night was a night of entertaining and boundless talent, fueled with booths by the different committees selling bouquets (even food bouquets) that made perfect gifts for performing friends.

Boo! Welcome to the impending month of October- The gates of Hell have just closed for our Chinese ghosts but things have barely started for our Western poltergeists and demons. With Halloween around the corner, tales of spooks and horror come floating around.

However, unknown to most, there is no need to get an expensive ticket to Halloween Horror Nights at USS when KR houses our own ghastly beings.

KR is like a second home to most of us where brotherhoods and sisterhoods are forged through tough times and hall shenanigans. We even have a family song to remind us that we're all part of the same blue-blooded family. However, apart from being (blue) blood-related, real siblings and relatives live among us in KR. No, I’m not talking about the Ding bros (Ding Xuan and Ding Xun), or Thaddeus and Jacob. Today, we bring to you the long-lost siblings of KR.

What’s for hall dinner today? Japanese? Western? Worms? Welcome to Kent Ridge Hall, the first (and probably only) hall in Singapore that’s taking the next step towards sustainable living - incorporating arthropods into students’ diets.

The annual NUS Open Day returned this year with not just a bang, but a bangin’ KR Open Day Booth built from scratch by HPB 17/18! Our theme this year was “Kent Ridge Airlines”, modelled after the concept of the Kent Ridge experience being a journey in its entirety (check out the promotional video here!). The KR Day Open Booth definitely stood out on Open Day with the #JointheKRew banner flying high and the interior of a tech-savvy airplane on display.

With the biennial Kent Ridge Hall Production just right around the corner (tomorrow!), we thought it would be fun to sit down with the characters (NOT cast!) of KRHP 17/18 and find out a little more about the students and teachers of Marine Parade Secondary School before watching their story.

Hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) is a term that would have sent chills down our spines when we were children. I remembered how this outbreak resembled SARS, where its highly contagious nature caused kindergarten classes to be temporarily suspended and schools to be sanitized thoroughly. Now, it’s here in our very own Kent Ridge Hall.

"Don’t think that just because you’re a teacher you’re going to change students’ lives. You’re not going to change anything.”

Did this quote trigger your curiosity? Well, then you definitely have to feast your eyes on Kent Ridge Hall Production’s adaption of Those Who Can’t, Teach to find out exactly why both KRHP Directors chose this as their favourite quote. With just 9 days to go to the première, KReporters are honoured to have had the opportunity to interview our very own KR Hall Production Directors, Tricia Ding and Justin May!

In the second and last group stage match, Heng Mui Keng neighbours (or some might say rivals), KR and Sheares Hall, went head to head to determine who will top the group. Both teams had already qualified for the semi-finals, claiming convincing wins against KE in the previous week, yet this did not deter either side from fielding a near full-strength starting eleven for this match-up. Clearly, the coveted top spot was of equal importance to both teams.

February 04, 2018

If you still haven’t heard about Those Who Can’t, Teach, where have you been?! Kent Ridge Hall Production (KRHP) has been hard at work the past few months (even over vacation) to bring to you a delightful two hour show adapted from the renowned local playwright Haresh Sharma from 1991.

Our Volleyball girls’ first match was against one of our toughest competitors - Eusoff Hall! The line up saw Calida, Sydney, Cristal, Liang Ying, Lim Ping, Elaine, Qian Hwee, and Charmaine fight for the victory as they tried their hardest to defend against Eusoff. The girls put in a tough effort, sometimes managing to close the gap between the Eusoff girls and themselves, but unfortunately Eusoff’s attacks proved to be impossible to counter. While the girls eventually lost 2 sets to Eusoff, they still put up a very strong fight.

On 21st January, the Kent Ridge floorball team got off to a roaring start with a 6-0 victory over Raffles Hall in the spanking new University Sports Center. Led by captain Kevin Chan, the floorball boys saw their performance steadily improve throughout all 3 periods. While there were some teething problems initially, all it took was a goal from Mervyn (a.k.a. Mao) to settle their nerves and get them into the groove.

January 22, 2018

The newly-opened University Sports Centre invited hundreds of spectators and competitors, all donned in their halls’ t-shirts and electrifying energy.

The Swimming Inter-Hall Games kickstarted with the individual 50m freestyle races. Unfortunately, on the first men’s heat the horn blared without a proper start command, leading to a domino-effect of panic-stricken dives by the competitors and protests abundant from the spectators.

What's this item about? What makes it interesting? WThe KR Sepak Takraw Boys started the 2017/2018 IHG season off with a mouth-watering preliminary tie against our very own neighbors, Sheares Hall. As with all Heng Mui Keng Derbys, throngs of supporters from both halls came down to MPSH 6 on an early Monday morning, eager to watch an intense game.

December 20, 2017

Ho Ho Ho! It’s the most wonderful time of the year again. Though many of us are busy having back-to-back trainings for the upcoming IHG season, there’s always time to enjoy some KRistmas festive cheer!

November 14, 2017

It was wet and slippery so we had to put on plastic protection over our heads. The mood was somber, like the dark clouds and the thunderous roars, but it got really enjoyable when we started slipping and sliding. Night Cycling 2018 was an unforgettable wheelie wet and wild night.

November 07, 2017

There is an ongoing Instagram competition in Kent Ridge Hall - #HappyGoLucKRy. Fellow residents can post pictures of them dressed according to the themes and use the applicable hashtag so they can stand a chance to win some really attractive prizes. The first released theme was #KRactiveWear followed by #KRashionWeek.

It was Tuesday night, 9pm. Small groups of early birds were waiting patiently in the canteen, making small talk amongst each other. ‘’Oh come on, I came early because I thought I could make a hit and run- But looks like I still have competition.’’ - commented one Kent Ridgean.

November 01, 2017

It was a Tuesday evening on the 17th October 2017. The afternoon rain had ceased and Kent Ridgeans were seen flocking on shuttle buses to Timbre @ The Substation. KR Rockers, the resident band of Kent Ridge Hall, was having its biannual Timbre gig performed by two groups: Timbre Band 1 and 2.

October 31, 2017

What a blast! After weeks of practice, KR’s very own culture groups finally got to show what they are made of. KR’s Got Talent was the theme of this year’s Culture Night (or rather, KRulture Night), and talentdid they have.

October 24, 2017

As per KR tradition every year, the highly anticipated KR BFF Game, revamped from KR Dating Game, returned this year with a new name and new rules. Organized by FWOC, #KRBFF is designed to bridge the gap between freshies and seniors, where freshies have to “chase” a senior of their choice to be the chosen BFF.

Organised by alumni in conjunction with KR’s Alumni Relations Unit, it featured alumni from both KR and the rest of NUS.

September 26, 2017

One of the most hyped up events in the calendar of Kent Ridge hall is KR Bash where a night of endless fun happens. This year’s bash happened on 6 September 2017 where fellow Kent Ridgeans headed down to Zouk Singapore to support their block represents.

As reading week starts and Kent Ridgeans prepare to study harder than they usually do on Wednesday and Friday nights, one unlucky chap has been met with some unexpected misfortune.
